A month-by-month prayer guide has been produced by Jenny Benfield who coordinates our Association of Friends. Many people are finding it helpful to focus their prayers. Click here

PosterNHCP at International Child Health Conference

We presented a poster at the Winter Meeting of the International Child Health Group of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health at Alder Hey Hospital Liverpool in November 2018. This highlighted our progress with training in Nigeria and the beginnings of a Quality Improvement Project.

Training 2018

Click to enlarge Visiting NHCP training facilitators, with Nigeria-based colleagues, completed successful training programmes during February and March 2018.

The Diocesan Hall at Amaokwe Item, Bende LGA, Abia State was the venue for a three day course in neonatal resuscitation and care. Another course was held at Bethesda Hospital, Ikachi, Oju LGA, Benue State. More local volunteer training coordinators were identified in both places.

We have expanded our work to include Obi Local Government in Benue State so we are now involved in three local government areas. In recent years, have trained over 300 staff from church and state facilities. Local staff are keeping records of successful resuscitations so we hope to have more evidence of the impact of our training soon.

NHCP Young Adults’ Movement

Click to enlarge As well as the appointment of Chibundu Onuzo as our Patron, we are delighted to report that NHCP now has a small group of young adult volunteers of Nigerian heritage in the UK. One of the them, Dr Somi Idowu, visited the projects in Igede Diocese, Benue State and helped with the training at Bethesda Hospital – he’s the tall guy standing at the back of this group of happy participants.

Click to enlarge Click to enlarge In March 2017 we were walking the foundation trenches of this new health centre, built by Methodist Church Nigeria to serve 40 villages near Isara. A year later, and the building is almost complete, thanks to the generosity of a local donor, Chief Kessington Adebutu, and the hard work of local people. A grant from the Revd Muriel Frampton legacy will help to equip the centre.

Reverend Muriel Frampton Bequest

Muriel was a long-term supporter of NHCP. Disabled by polio as a child, she did not allow her physical disabilities to constrain her life and ministry, which included working as a mission partner in Kenya. By all accounts, she was a remarkable woman. Generous in life, she has given NHCP a large bequest after her death. Bids have been invited from centres in Nigeria for funding of infrastructure projects that will improve their sustainability. Working with Methodist Church Nigeria, we have an unprecedented opportunity, and responsibility, to use her bequest to improve the health of poor people in Nigeria.

Association of Friends

YakubaNHCP has an Association of Friends who give money regularly to ensure that salaries of essential staff in Nigeria continue to be paid.

One of the people we support is Esther Yakubu, a nurse midwife at Galadima Health Centre in Kaduna State. Here she is training others.

We currently have 90 members of the Association of Friends. If you are interested in becoming a Friend please contact Jenny Benfield: Tel: 01284 702157 e-mail

An Association of Friends leaflet is available.
